Low carbon · SAE J403
The workhorse low-carbon grade — balanced strength, formability and weldability.
C1815C8Ø 4 – 19 mm
Why this grade
Higher manganese (0.6–0.9 %) lifts strength without giving away much ductility. It carburises well, so it is common for parts that need a hard skin on a tough core.

Cold-forged studs
Carburised gears and bushes
Machined fittings

How we anneal it
Sub-critical or spheroidise
Spheroidising before severe heading lowers flow stress and die wear.
